Our Day on the Water
As a special birthday treat for one of our team, we asked Ocean Sports Tuition if they would help us organise a very special, unique day out on the water.
We chartered their Bavaria 35 motorboat for a day trip to the Isle of Wight, and were accompanied by skipper Alex, who ran through a safety briefing before showing the birthday girl the ropes and supervising whilst she steered us through Saxon Wharf Marina, past St. Mary’s Stadium, and out to open water. Despite it being November, the weather was kind and the sun shining. What’s more, the fridge on board was stocked with prosecco courtesy of Ocean Sports, and we were shown how to connect our phones to the sound system so that we could play our own music during the cruise. On the way to the Island, Alex showed us the beautiful coastline, pointing out recognisable sights, and telling us stories of Lord Montague and the great heritage of Beaulieu.
As part of the day’s skippered charter, Andy at Ocean Sports had made recommendations for lunch on the Island, and having decided that we wanted to visit The Coast Bar & Dining Room in Cowes, booked a table on our behalf. On arrival, we found the table decorated with balloons and Happy Birthday garlands, before enjoying a hearty, delicious Sunday lunch with much wine and laughter. After lunch, Alex guided us back to the boat and started the cruise back to the Mainland. The journey was an hour each way, and we were lucky enough to enjoy smooth sailing and bright sunshine which made the experience even lovelier. On the return journey to Southampton, Alex showed the rest of the team how to drive the boat and let us try some (safe) high-speed manoeuvres. Great fun!
When we arrived back at Saxon Wharf, Alex was happy for us to stay on the boat and relax with prosecco and music until our taxi arrived. He and Andy really went above and beyond to make us feel as comfortable and safe as possible. Overall, the day was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the luxury of a motorboat trip across the Solent. We can’t imagine a better experience for a corporate away-day or teambuilding day! Thanks to Ocean Sports Tuition, it really was very special.
