It you have decided to get out on the water and are looking for a great introduction to powerboating, then our RYA Powerboat Level 1 Solent course is the ideal place to start. This course is perfect for children, young adults, and families that are new to boating and want to learn together, in addition to those that just want to experience an introductory day on the water.
If however you are looking to charter, purchase, or use a boat in the UK or Europe, the best course to undertake is the Level 2 course, which includes a free ICC assessment.
Do I need previous experience?
No, this course is suitable for all students over the age of 8 years old, with no previous boating experience. The RYA Powerboat Level 1 Course is a 1-day introduction to the safe handling of a powerboat. Anyone over the age of 8 can take part, and our qualified instructors are dedicated to ensuring that each student gets the most out of this one-day training course, including the opportunity to learn on a 1-2-1 basis with an instructor.
Students under 16 will have their certificates approved under the following conditions: “To be under supervision of a responsible adult” and will be capable of sailing under adult supervision.

What will I learn?
The course content is a great practical introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling, and the use of safety equipment. By the end of the one-day course you will be able to safely launch and recover a powerboat and feel confident completing simple manoeuvres such as picking up a mooring buoy

- Preparation of boat and crew
- Boat handling at low speed
- Picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
