Own Boat Tuition: Summary

Perhaps you have already been boating for a season or two but would now like a little help to enjoy and explore the full potential of it or are relatively new to boating and have purchased a new boat, our Own Boat Tuition can help you to develop the skills and confidence in navigating and handling your vessel.

Learn in your own time, on your own boat with your friends and family and in the place where you will be boating under the expert supervision of your Ocean Sports Tuition RYA instructor.

No previous experience is necessary as we tailor these courses to suit your requirements – both for the experienced and inexperienced powerboaters.

The course schedule can be any number of days: 0900 – 1700 (depending on individual requirements). Own boat tuition is available seven days a week.

Please note that RYA courses, have a requirement of a minimum numbers of days spent on board:

RYA Powerboat courses: 2 days
RYA Helmsman course: 2 days
RYA Day Skipper Practical Motor: 4 days

This training is specific to you and your boat so we can tailor the training to fit you and your needs. As a general guide if you are new to boating, then the RYA Helmsman course or RYA Powerboat Level 2 is a great start.

If you’ve had a few seasons already and want to develop your skills and experience further, then the RYA Day Skipper, RYA Intermediate Powerboat or RYA Advanced Powerboat courses would be ideal.

Own boat tuition is available and starts from £300* per day, for vessels up to 8 meters, £325 for vessels up to 10 meters, £350* for vessels over 10 meters.

Own boat tuition is charged on a day rate, not per person. Depending on what scheme we are teaching, we can have up to 5 people for RYA Motor Cruising courses 3 people for RYA powerboat courses.

  I attended Ocean Sports after a recommendation to do my Advanced Powerboat with them. Ian the instructor was on point with the course and really experianced.
Facilities and boats are good and modern.
Night Nav and unlight location are a very good learning curve especially in the solent.

  Just completed my Powerboat level 2 course with Ocean Sports, Oliver was our instructor and honestly he was amazing, such a nice, patient and professional guy. I knew the course would be a lot of fun anyway but Oliver made it even better. Thanks a lot guys, I'll be back!

Exceptional instruction, safety standards and customer experience delivered by highly skilled professionals. Andy Murray, the manager, went above and beyond, with service excellence, offering me exceptional, unique, personalised development and coaching, which I completed with Andy and Josh to further develop my knowledge, skills and confidence. I completed both my PB2 (Instructors: Ollie and Ramos) and PB Intermediate (Instructors: Andy and Trish) with Ocean Sports Tuition. We also completed a fantastic Axopar experience with Andrew, At first I was apprehensive and all the Instructors were extremely welcoming, patient and understanding (and offered refreshments). I recently took the PB2 course, couldn't recommend it enough. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The course was well organised with good facilities and great boats.
