SUMMARY
The RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor Course is an endorsement to the RYA Powerboat Instructor Course. It allows you to teach the RYA Tender Operator, Intermediate and Advanced Powerboat Courses. This is the highest RYA powerboat instructor qualification available.
The course takes 2 days to complete and is run by a Powerboat Trainer.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
To take part in this course, candidates must have logged teaching hours. Please note, for the purpose of this course there is a minimum age of 18. You must also hold the following:
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- RYA Powerboat Instructor Certificate
- RYA Advanced Powerboat Course completion certificate
You will also require one of the following Certificates of Competence:
- RYA Advanced Powerboat
- RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Power
- or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Power
Additionally, you must hold a commercial endorsement. However, Advanced instructors who do not hold a commercial endorsement will still be eligible to teach the Intermediate Powerboat qualifications.
Finally, a health declaration is required for those without a commercial endorsement.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
This course will require students to exhibit a range of skills. As well as strong technical ability, candidates will need to show the ability to pass on these skills effectively. For example, candidates must demonstrate:
- A well developed awareness of safety whilst powerboating
- A thorough knowledge of the activity
- Effective communication skills
- The ability to design activities for potential students that are stimulating but also challenging
- Taking charge of any situation while giving the students the opportunity to develop their own leadership skills
- Ability to assess not only students strengths, but also their weaknesses
- The ability to deliver effective feedback
OUTLINE COURSE CONTENT
The course will take 2 days to complete, and also includes 1 night exercise based on a continuous assessment.
