Book an Intermediate Powerboat Course in Southampton
If you have completed your RYA Powerboat level 2 course and now want to develop your skills and qualifications and deepen your boating knowledge to venture to unfamiliar waters, Ocean Sports Tuition would love to help you realise your powerboating ambitions with this great training course, the RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course.
Is the RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course right for me?
The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course is for those boaters who want to embark upon longer coastal passages by day to broaden and expand upon their RYA Powerboat Level 2 knowledge. Please note that this is a mandatory requirement for anyone looking to complete the RYA Advanced Powerboat qualification.
Do I need previous experience?
Unlike the Level 1 and 2 qualifications, the Intermediate Powerboat course requires previous powerboat experience. You may have completed the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course, or you may have an equivalent level of experience.
A number of our students also find that some of the theory courses help them to better understand some of the more technical elements of the course. If you have completed the RYA VHF, RYA First Aid or RYA Day Skipper theory course, you will find that you are able to put into practice some of the information that you have learned on the Intermediate Powerboat course.
Due to the more technical nature of this course compared to others, we have set a minimum age for students on the Intermediate Powerboat course of 16 years old.
What will I learn?
The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course will give you the opportunity to plan a cruise by day time. You will have the opportunity to participate in two cruises – one by traditional methods of navigation and the other by GPS. During this course you will have the opportunity to develop your existing safety and boat handling to the standard required for longer passages in more complex scenarios.
Subjects covered will include: chart work, tides, compass rose, weather, position fixing, navigation by GPS, methods of navigation at high speed, pile moorings, manoeuvring in locks and a range of man overboard methods.
For further information on the topics covered, take a look at the Intermediate Powerboat course syllabus.
