RYA RADAR Course

SUMMARY

The RYA RADAR course is a one-day course providing a clear
understanding of RADAR and how it can be used to aid navigation and avoid collisions.

This course is aimed at those who wish to know how to correctly operate a RADAR for navigation and collision avoidance.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will learn face-to-face with a professional Ocean Sports Tuition RYA RADAR Instructor, using the new RADAR simulator.

OUTLINE COURSE CONTENT

By the end of the one day course, you will be able to:

• Understand the types of RADAR and differences in their use.
• Use RADAR as a ranging device.
• Use RADAR for bearing measurement and understand its limitations.
• Understand the effect of horizontal beamwidth.
• Set up the display for optimal operation & performance monitoring.
• Understand relative and true motion displays, trails, and vectors.
• Identify errors, including shadow sectors, blind arcs, false echoes.
• Use automatic plotting as an aid to collision avoidance.
• Identify errors associated with automatic plotting aids.
• Understand the collision regulations in terms of restricted visibility and RADAR.
• Position monitor and safely navigate using RADAR.

This one day course costs £150 per person plus VAT.
