RYA Day Skipper Sail course
If you have a little more experience and would like to skipper a sailing boat on shorter daytime coastal cruises then the RYA Day Skipper Sail Course is for you. Skippering is much more than just boat handling and you will learn how to take charge effectively by day. The course concentrates on the many skills required to be a skipper responsible for the boat and crew. Skills such as boat handling, sail selection, weather forecasting, passage planning, navigation and pilotage etc. The course will also allow you to apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) which is required to charter a sailing boat in European waters.

Do I Need Previous Experience?
Yes. You must be at least 16 years of age and have 5 days, 100 miles and 4 night hours on a sailing boat. The RYA Competent Crew course is a perfect pre cursor to this course. It is also assumed that you have the required theory knowledge in basic navigation and seamanship beforehand. It is recommended that you attend the Day Skipper Theory course as preparation.

What Will I Learn?
During the 5 day course you will live onboard and will learn how to prepare the boat and crew for sea, including: engine checks, yacht handling under power and sail, navigation and pilotage techniques, passage planning and making, what to do in emergency situations, anchoring, night cruising, meteorology and rope work. All of the elements to successfully skipper your yacht and maintain the safety of your crew.

This course can be run on your boat for yourself or your group. Own boat training costs start from £250.00 plus VAT per day. Please contact us for more information regarding own boat tuition.
