RYA Competent Crew Courses Near Me
The RYA Competent Crew Course is an excellent starting point for your sailing activities and a great springboard for the RYA Day Skipper Course. It is a 5 day course for those who want to learn to learn to sail and be an active and confident part of the crew.
You will live on board for the duration of the course sailing to some wonderful and exciting parts of the Solent, staying in different harbours overnight. By the end of the 5 days you will be able to fully participate in sailing the yacht including sail handling, taking responsibility for the helm, keeping lookout etc.

No, the competent crew assumes no prior knowledge or experience.
There is no minimum age limit.

What will I learn?
During the 5 day course you actually get a chance to learn to ‘live’ onboard a yacht and learn to be a hands on crew member. You will learn a wide range of things including:
- Knowledge of sea terms / nautical terms
- Parts of the boat
- Safety procedures
- Engine controls
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Steering the yacht under power and sailing using different points of sail
- Sail handling
- Man overboard
- Anchoring and rope work skills learning the most widely used knots
Crew Course
Own Boat Tuition
This course can run on your boat for yourself or your group. Own boat training cost start from £250.00 plus VAT per day. Please contact us for more information regarding own boat tuition.

Monday to Friday 0930 – variable
If taken after Start Yachting Course the Competent Crew can be completed in 3 days – Friday – Sunday 0930 – variable
If taken over 3 weekends Friday – Sunday 0930 – variable
