The RYA Coastal Skipper Sail Course is for the more experienced Day Skipper who would like to undertake longer coastal passages by day and night, utilising more advance boat handling and navigation skills.
Do I need previous experience?
Yes, you must be at least 17 years old and have at least 15 days aboard a sailing yacht with 2 days acting as skipper. You will need at least 300 logged miles and 8 night hours. You will also have theory knowledge up to RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster Theory level.
What will I learn?
You will learn how to skipper a yacht on a more demanding coastal passage which requires more advanced navigation, seamanship and leadership skills perhaps in more adverse weather and conditions. As a Coastal Skipper you will be a better boat handler and will be in complete charge of the vessel, implementing more in depth preparations for sea, watch keeping systems, weather forecasting, passage planning. You will complete a night sail and a longer coastal passage (weather permitting).
