Preparing for your RYA MCA Advanced Powerboat exam

The RYA MCA Advanced powerboat certificate of competency is the pinnacle of the RYA powerboat scheme, it is the gateway to the world of commercial work on open boats.

Candidates that would like to undertake the RYA MCA Advanced powerboat Certificate of Competency exam, must have as a minimum: 30 days at sea, 800 sea miles, 12 night hours with at least 2 days experience as a skipper. However if you have attended the two day RYA Advanced powerboat course this is then reduced to 20 days at sea and 400 sea miles, 12 night hours and 2 days as a skipper.

Whatever your previous experience we would always recommend some preparation training prior to the exam process, this not only gives you invaluable knowledge of the area where the exam will take place but will improve your depth of knowledge and help to brush up on any of your skills that might be lacking.

You can choose from our two afternoons and one night exercise option or our full five day preparation week. The latter will give you at least four night exercises as well as theory and practical training during the day, so whatever the examiner may ask of you, you can be confident that it will have been covered in the preparation training week.

Whichever training option you decide on, you can be confident that you are in the best possible care as all our instructors at Ocean Sports Tuition have first hand knowledge of the commercial world. This is also backed up with our after course care and support that comes when you undertake any course with us.
