The RYA Essential Seamanship and Navigation Course is designed to give students an understanding of navigation in a fun and safe environment. This course focuses on developing your understanding of chart work, tides, rules of the road and passage planning. It will help enhance your knowledge as a boater and will hopefully give you that little bit extra confidence to go to that harbour or creek that you’ve always wanted to go to.
You have 2 ways to undertake this course, in your own time online or face-to-face with an Ocean Sports Tuition instructor at our classroom in Southampton.
Is this course right for me?
This course provides a basic understanding of safety and navigation afloat. Students who have completed the RYA Start Yachting Course or RYA power boat level 2 and are seeking more knowledge will find this course suitable. Ocean Sports Tuition has delivered this course since inception and has found it to be very useful for students of all abilities.
Do I need previous experience?
No, this course is suitable for all students wishing to further their knowledge base, you may also be thinking about attending an RYA Day Skipper Shore Based Course.
What will I learn?
In your 2 day training course you will learn: basic knowledge and understanding of meteorology, charts, tides, anchoring, safety, buoyage, navigation, pilotage, passage planning, rules on the water and electronic navigation.
