RYA Advanced Pilotage Course

The RYA Advanced Pilotage course is aimed at students who have completed their RYA Day Skipper practical course and are looking to further their experience before undertaking the RYA Coastal Skipper Course.

Do I need previous experience?

Yes, you would have completed the RYA Day Skipper practical course already. Your theory knowledge would also be to a RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster level.

You will also need a VHF Short Range and a valid First Aid certificate.

Minimum age for this course is 17.

What will I learn?

The RYA Advanced Pilotage course teaches:

  • Night navigation and pilotage skills
  • Use of radar in a practical environment
  • Boat handling in various wind and tide situations
  • Responsibility for a skipper
  • Decision making for passage and pilotage plans
