2012 Cowes week 

Every year, normally during the first week of August, nearly 1000 yachts come together for the seven day regatta that is Cowes Week. As we are in the olympic's year 2012 Cowes week will run from the 11th - 18th of August.

It is one of the most famous and one of the most fun events in the sailing calendar and with the buzz created by so many competitors, it makes for an amazing sight whether this be from ashore or, of course, from the deck of the yacht you are racing!  With several berths available, Ocean Sports Tuition offers you the opportunity to experience the action first hand as a crew member.  Former racing experience is not required as the week will be supported by a pre-race training weekend where you will receive all the expert tuition, tips and practise needed to meet the challenge and experience the thrill.

Ocean Sports race programme commences on the early evening  of the 9th of August.  On board you will meet all your fellow Ocean Sports Cowes week  race crew members and you will  all get acquainted with your Ocean Sports Tuition race skipper, during which time you will also be given a  safety briefing. The primary objective of this day is for you to build the knowledge, practice and camraderie that will make the week's racing a hugely enjoyable and productive experience.

You will again receive a briefing from your skipper before you set sail for Cowes.  Here the fun really begins.  You and your team will stay aboard the yacht for the next week, participating in the races during the day then returning back to port in the evening to enjoy the festival  atmosphere in Cowes.  The combination of adrenaline filled days and lively evenings really does make for an unforgettable week.

All our crews are purposefully mixed in terms of peoples' ability and each is led by an expeerienced skipper.  This is a rare opportunity to learn in an environment where your skills are immediately put into practice in a competitive situation.  The week is about having a great experience but also about coming away a better and more competent sailor.

2012 Round The Island

With around 1800 boats competing, the Round Island Race is the pinnacle of UK sailing.  Not only is it the largest sailing event in the country, it is also one of the most talked about.  The sailing is world class and the opportunity to be part of this prestigious event is not to be missed.

Ocean Sports Tuition will be entering a number of boats, meaning you can experience all the excitement of the race as a member of our crew.  Once again, having lots of race experience is not necessary as we will make your time aboard a productive one ensuring that you know all that you need to in order to participate fully.

Race Programme (3 days):

We will begin the weekend with a pre-race training day which takes place on Friday 29th June 2012 . This will enable you to meet your skipper, the other members of your crew and familiarise yourself with the boat.  A range of skills such as tacking, gybing hoisting and dropping the spinnaker will be practised throughout the day and then it will be time to talk tactics!  Any pre race nerves will soon be forgotten during an evening spent in the warm and lively atmosphere of Cowes before returning to the boat for a night onboard.

Racing begins early on Saturday morning and continues throughout the day culminating in a celebratory meal in Cowes and a chance to unwind after what will have been an adrenaline filled experience.
 
Sunday will see you enjoy a relaxed breakfast and a chance to reflect on the weekend before setting sail back to the home port..
