How do I get an ICC?

Intentional Certificate of Competence is valid for 5 years and is issued by the RYA. It can be gained on completion of an RYA Powerboat level 2 course, practical RYA Day Skipper course or if you feel you have enough experience, a direct ICC assessment which are available through Ocean Sports Tuition.

The ICC, is the certificate required to bare boat charter a boat in the UK and Europe. It is also a must if you would like to take your own boat into European waters.

If you are thinking of heading into the inland water ways you can also add the CEVNI endorsement to your ICC. The CEVNI test is now available online through RYA training centres such as Ocean Sports Tuition who are more than willing to talk you through the licence application process.

Once you have completed your training course or direct assessment you are ready to apply for the ICC licence, this normally takes a few weeks. Currently the RYA charge £44 for non member,  but for members of the RYA it’s FREE!
