Oceansports Tuition offers a full range of courses packaged together for anyone wishing to pursue a career as a commercial skipper.

This course is aimed at clients wishing to gain the qualifications needed to drive open boats up to 10 meters commercially or those who would just like to develop their personal skills to a professional level.

Oceansports relise that all clients are coming to us with different abilities and experience and there for are offering this package in three phases.

Phase one
Is this the right course for me?

This is a great base course for all, if you looking to carry on to the commerical phase and have no or little experience then this is a must or if you would just like to gain some great qualifications for your personall boating experience.


Do I need previous experience?

No - this phase is aimed at complete beginners.


What will I learn?

On completion of this phase you will be able to skipper an open boat on longer passages.


How long is the course?

The course duration is seven days.

How much is the course and what does it include?

The course cost £835 per person and includes - moorings, all tuition, Fuel and water proofs.

Accommodation can be provided, this is a separate cost.

Experience building Phase
Is this the right course for me?

This phase is aimed at those who would like to gain more experience or those who would like to undertake the commercial exam and don't have the prior experience.

Do I need previous experience?

No - this is aimed at anyone who would like to gain more time on the water.


What will I learn?

Invaluable experience in different conditions in both day light and night time.


How long is the course and how many miles will I be able to log?

The phase duration is 12 days.

How much is the course and what does it include?

The course costs £3250 per person and includes tuition, fuel and moorings.


Shore based accommodation can be arranged for this course phase.

Commercial Endorsement Phase
Is this the right course for me?

This phase is aimed at students who want to obtain there RYA MCA Advanced power boat qualification. 

Do I need previous experience?

You should have the knowledge and experience of phase one and at least twenty days on water.

What will I learn?

Three days shore based training learning key theory subjects such as - secondary ports, tidal heights and rates, collision regulations, night lights and shapes, sound signals. It is an intensive programme of instructor led training which will prepare you specifically for the exam.  Here you will be asked to demonstrate night pilotage and navigation skills as well as boat handling and general theory. In addition to this, you will be expected to demonstrate your competency as a skipper.

On successful completion of this exam you will also need an RYA Sea Survival certificate as well as an ML5 medical from your doctor.


How long is the course and how many mile will I be able to log?

The full course duration is seven days. 


How much is the course and what does it include?

This course costs £1025 per person and includes all moorings, fuel and expert tuition.

Accommodation can be arranged for you, there is an additional charge for this.

Other additional costs include - RYA exam fees, this was £140 at time of publishing.
