| Is this the right course for me? RYA start yachting is a two day course aimed at beginners with little or no previous experience in yachting. Delivered within a small group by an experienced instructor, it is designed to introduce you to the basic skills and techniques of sailing a yacht. By the end of the two day course you will have gained greater sailing knowledge and confidence on-board. |
| Do I need previous experience? No previous experience is needed. What will I learn? This course is a two day introduction to sail cruising. You will learn about steering a yacht, sail handling, rope-work and gain an awareness of safety on board. |
| How long is the course? The course takes place over a weekend, from 1900 Friday to 1600 Sunday afternoon (two days and two nights). How much is the course and what does it include? | RYA Competent Crew |
| Is this the right course for me? The aim of this course is to learn how to become an effective crew member. It is suitable for beginners and offers training over a greater duration than the introductory start yachting course. |

What will I learn? On this course you will learn basic seamanship and helming. You will learn to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row the dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines. This course is a fantastic introduction to sailing a yacht. |
| How long is the course? This course is run in two different formats, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs: Option 1: Five days spread over two weekends- a two day weekend followed by a three day weekend. Option 2: Five consecutive days, starting on a Monday or Wednesday. |

| RYA Day Skipper Sail |
| Is this the right course for me? RYA Day Skipper Sail is designed for those with previous yachting experience who want to extend their existing skills to skipper a cruising yacht in familiar tidal waters by day. Do I need previous experience? Yes - you must meet the following criteria before you can apply for this course: - Minimum Age: 16
- 5 days on board
- 100 miles logged
- 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht
- Basic navigation and helming ability
If at this stage you are not ready for this course and need to build your experience and confidence on board please consider doing the RYA Day Skipper Shore based Course, followed by the RYA Competent Crew Course. The RYA SRC course will also be very useful for you. What will I learn? You will learn and practise a range of skills covering pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation. This five day RYA Day Skipper practical course gives you the opportunity to put the skills learnt on the shore based course to the test. On completion of this RYA Day Skipper practical course we will help you apply for your ICC - International Certificate of Competence - this certificate covers you for sail craft up to 24m. The ICC is subject to a license fee and is available to UK residents and citizens. |

| RYA Coastal Skipper |
| Is this the right course for me? RYA coastal Skipper is designed for sailors with previous experience that want to advance their existing skills and be able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night. |
| Do I need previous experience? Yes - you must meet the following criteria before you can apply for this course: 15 days sea time (2 as skipper) 300 miles 8 night hours Sailing skills to Day Skipper standard Navigation skills to Coastal Skipper (shore based) standard RYA VHF DSC Certificate -recommended |
| What Will I Learn? On completion of this course skippers will be able to confidently undertake coastal sailing and passage making by day and night. Each student will have the opportunity to skipper passages in a range of different situations, so accumulating experience and knowledge of: passage planning, safety, pilotage by day and night, emergency situations and boat handling. This course is run in the Solent and around the South coast so you will gain experience in tidal waters - thus allowing your certificate to be endorsed with this skill. One of your skippered passages will include a longer coastal passage, ideally this will be in waters you are not familiar with to maximise your learning experience. |

| MCA Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competence |
| Is this the right course for me? This preparation course and exam is for students wanting to obtain their Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competence and who meat the criteria laid down by the RYA. We only offer limited spaces on these courses, keeping numbers small so that candidates get the maximum time available to them. |
| Do I need previous experience? Yes - you must meet the following criteria before you can apply for this course: - 30 days sea time
- 2 as skipper
- 12 hours sailing
- 800 logged miles
- First Aid certificate
- VHF operator's certificate
* Students wanting RYA/MCA Commercial Endorsement must have attended an RYA Sea Survival course. * If you hold an RYA Coastal Skipper Course Completion Certificate requirement is 20 days, 400 miles and 12 night hours. |
| What Will I Learn? The first half of this course will give you the opportunity to refresh your boat handling, pilotage, passage planning and skippering skills. We will also practise sailing onto moorings, blind navigation, MOB techniques and night pilotage. The examiner will ask you to demonstrate your knowledge as a Skipper and in doing so you will draw upon the RYA shore based syllabus for Coastal Skipper or Yacht master. |
| How long is the course? The course runs for 7 days. This course is split into two: For the first 5 days our RYA instructor will be on-board coaching you. Then, on the afternoon of the fifth day RYA external examiner will join you on-board in order to conduct your exam which will take place over the remaining two days. |

MCA Yacht master Offshore Certificate of Competence |
Is this the right course for me? This course and exam is for students wanting to obtain their Yacht Master Offshore Certificate of Competence and who meat the criteria laid down by the RYA. We only offer limited spaces on these courses, keeping numbers small so that candidates get the maximum time available to them. |
Do I need previous experience? Yes - you must meet the following criteria before you can apply for this course: - 50 days sea time
- 50 hours night sailing
- 2500 miles
- 5 passages over 60M including 2 as skipper and 2 overnight
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- VHF Operator's certificate
* Students wanting RYA/MCA Commercial Endorsement must have attended an RYA Sea Survival course. |

Own Boat Tuition |
What is own boat tuition? Own boat tuition is not a specific course as it is tailor made to your requirements. Generally the aim is to build knowledge, experience and confidence on your own boat, though this can be extended and combined with one of the above courses if desired. Do I need previous experience? No experience is necessary as we tailor make these courses to suit your requirements - both for the experienced and inexperienced sailor. What will I learn? Own Boat Tuition gives you the opportunity to learn at your own pace so we can lead you through any sail cruising skills completely tailored to your needs. You can learn with family, friends or if you prefer, on your own. What is certain is that it can really enhance your ability to enjoy sailing and do so with confidence. We will support you at all times and make sure that you get the most out of your experience. How much does it cost and how do I book? Own boat tuition costs £175 per day, plus expenses.
