This course provides a basic understanding of safety and navigation afloat. Students who have completed there RYA start yachting or RYA power boat level 2 and are seeking more knowledge will find this course suitable.


Do I need previous experience?

No - this course is aimed at complete beginners wishing to further their knowledge base, you might also be thinking about attending a Day Skipper shore based course.


What will I learn?


Basic knowledge of meteorology,charts, anchoring, safety, buoyage,navigation, weather pilotage, passage planning, rules on the water and electronic navigation.

How long is the course?


Two days.

RYA Dayskipper


Is this the right course for me?

Aimed at students wishing to be able to skipper a small yacht in  familiar waters by day. This course will impart the theory knowledge to undertake this. This course works hand in hand with the Day Skipper practical course.


Do I need previous experience?

No - However if you have been sailing before you will get more out of the course.


What will I learn?

Topics covered will include - Basic seamanship, navigation, lights and shapes, weather and collision regulations. On completion of this course you will have the theoretical to navigate a small yacht around familiar waters by day.


How long is the course?

We run these courses in various formats.

Five consecutive days.

Five days spilt over weekends.

The cost of this course is £339 per person. This includes expert tuition, course material and CD ROMS.

RYA  Yacht master Offshore and Coastal Skipper 


Is this the right course for me?

The course will teach you how to passage plan and navigate along offshore and coastal passages. This course is ideal for  students wishing to attend a Yacht master or coastal skipper practical Week.


Do I need previous experience? 

Yes - Navigation to a Day skipper shore based standard. Students will gain more from the course if they have had the opportunity to put this into practice.


What will I learn?

Topics covered will include - stability, sailing in foreign waters, safety equipment, electronic navigation, secondary ports, CTS, EP's, DR, Lights and Shapes and Weather.

Included in the course are a number of assessment papers which your instructor will guide you towards.


How long is the course?

This course is five days - This can be either five consecutive days or split week ends.


How much is the course and what does it include?

The cost of this course is £349 per person. This includes all course material, expert tuition and CD ROM's.

RYA First Aid


Is this the right course for me?

This course is aimed at to equip you with the skills to be able to administer first aid as a skipper or as a crew member.  The course will address situations that may arise while you are afloat and what to do in their event.


Do I need previous experience?

No - This course is suitable for all students alike. Students wishing to endorse an RYA power boat certificate or a recreational windsurfer wanting to gain the knowledge to help a fellow sailor.


What will I learn?

This RYA First Aid course is designed for sailors and watersports, and covers  realistic first aid that you are likely to need whilst afloat - situations such as how to deal with hypothermia.

The certificate is valid from three years from date of issue.


How long is the course?

This is a one day course.

This course costs £79 per persons, this includes expert tuition and certificates.

RYA Short Range Certificate (VHF)


Is this the right course for me?

This course is aimed at those students who wish to operate a VHF radio on board any British vessel that is voluntary fitted with radio equipment.

Do I need previous experience?

No - Although it is greatly benifcal to have knowlege of the phonetic alphabet prior to attending. This will be sent to you upon booking.


What Will I learn?

The use of a VHF radio including  VHF voice, distress, urgency and safety procedures, as well as Digital Selective Calling (DSC) EPIRBS, SARTs and Navtex. We will also look at GMDSS and we fit into the system. 

You will have the opportunity to practise your new skills through the day using our live radios. 

GMDSS - Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems.

This course costs £79 per person and include expert tuition.

RYA Diesel Engine 2day course


Is this the right course for me?

This course aims to teach you about the main systems of a marine diesel engine so that you can do what's necessary to prevent mechanical failures at sea, and repair simple faults which do not require workshop support. The second day provides extensive practical hands-on experience and there is plenty of opportunity for interaction with the qualified instructor and other course members.



Do I need previous experience?

No previous experience is required. This course is ideal for anyone wishing to further their knowledge.



What Will I learn?

Operation of the marine diesel engine fuel, lubrication, cooling and electrical systems. Engine maintenance Winterising and fault diagnosis. Extensive practical hands-on session on second day


How long is the course?

This is a two day course.

This course costs £225 per persons includes all tuition and course material.
